A full-day workshop exploring decorative techniques and surface design.

During the workshop, you’ll design and create two decorative stoneware serving boards before learning a range of surface decoration techniques to bring them to life.

Throughout the day, Sian will demonstrate a selection of professional decorating methods, helping you discover how texture, pattern, colour and mark-making can transform a simple piece of clay into something truly personal.

Techniques may include:

• Sgraffito

• Slip decoration

• Carving and incising

• Texture and impressed pattern

• Coloured slips

• Wax resist

• Underglaze decoration

• Layering and combining decorative techniques

You’ll leave with two beautifully decorated pieces that will be glazed and fired by us after the workshop.

Discover the full process of wheel-thrown pottery in this immersive two-day workshop. Perfect for beginners as well as those looking to refine their throwing skills, the Complete Wheel Experience will take you from your very first throw through to finishing and decorating your own unique ceramic pieces.

Day 1 – Throwing (Saturday, 10am–3pm)

Saturday is all about making on the wheel. With plenty of step-by-step guidance in a small group (maximum 4 participants), you’ll learn how to centre, pull, and shape clay on the wheel. By the end of the day, you’ll have several freshly thrown pieces ready to refine.

Day 2 – Turning & Decorating (Sunday, 10am–3pm)

On Sunday, we return to your pieces to turn, refine, and decorate. You’ll learn how to trim your pots, add handles or other elements, and experiment with surface decoration techniques such as texture, coloured slips, and stamping.

At the end of the weekend, you’ll have a complete set of personalised pieces – from coffee cups or tapas bowls (depending on your chosen weekend) – ready to be glazed and fired.

Create your own elegant pair of ceramic olive oil and vinegar bottles in this relaxed four-hour workshop.

Using professional slab-building techniques, you’ll handcraft two beautifully shaped bottles, designed to become both a practical part of your kitchen and a timeless feature on your dining table. Inspired by nature, you’ll personalise each piece with botanical textures and decorative details before finishing them in your choice of carefully selected colours.

Whether you’re making them for yourself or as a thoughtful gift, you’ll create a unique pair that’s as beautiful as it is functional. With plenty of individual guidance throughout, this workshop is perfect for complete beginners as well as those with a little pottery experience.

Once fired and glazed, your bottles will be fitted with premium stainless steel pourers and will be food-safe, watertight and ready to fill with your favourite olive oil and vinegar.

Welcome to Clay Café - our relaxed, beginner-friendly pottery workshop where every month brings a new seasonal piece to make.

From handmade coffee mugs and ceramic pumpkins to Christmas decorations, bud vases and berry bowls, each Clay Café session is centred around one featured project, so you'll know exactly what you're coming to create.

We'll guide you step-by-step through hand-building your piece using simple pottery techniques. No wheel, no experience and no need to arrive with an idea - we've already taken care of that bit.

Just choose the monthly project you'd love to make, come along and enjoy an easy-going couple of hours with clay in your hands and a tea or barista coffee by your side.

After Your Workshop

We'll take care of glazing and firing your creation in the studio, ready for you to enjoy at home.
